it's like a whole bunch of awesome threw up on my wall

Hello all!  I've been slacking in blog-land lately, but I have been busy!

Here's a little sneak peak at what I've been doing lately, from my Instagram:

Ever since hubs and I moved into our rental house this summer, I've been super excited about my first ever dedicated home office & sewing room!  Since the budget is tight and I don't have extra money available to spend on office upgrades, I'm working on prettying up the space using things I already have around the house.  I'll give you the gross before and the much better after pics soon, but for now here's a little taste of what my formerly bare walls are looking like now -- inspiration boards!  Twelve of them, so be exact.  I used this style of cork squares, and by using 50% off coupons at JoAnn's, all twelve were around $15 or so.  Score!  Using magazine clippings, sketches, postcards, paint swatches, and other bits and bobs from around the office, I was able to turn these squares into twelve mini inspiration boards that double as colorful art for my space. Now, walking into my sewing space puts me in a creative mindset, and it is SO much better than my formerly bare, white walls.

Stay tuned for more progress photos as I complete this space!

my lovely pattern testers

Several weeks ago, I put a call out on the interweb for some pattern testers for my brand new sewing pattern - the Zippy Bag.  I was amazed by the enthusiastic responses!  They graced me with lovely photos and inspired me with their creativity.  Isn't it funny how different the same bag can look when everyone chooses their own unique fabrics?  Love it! Here's a few photos for your enjoyment, along with the names of the testers who sewed them....

Ashley's lovely black, white, and yellow purse

Juanita's "Fine Whiner" purse - ha!

Juanita was ambitious and made two purses!

Maria from miacreates.blogspot.com made this beautiful bag with a leather strap!

Nancy's bag makes me think of pink lemonade... mmm...

Shannon's bag reminds me that fall is just around the corner!

Judith's colorful purse - this would go with just about any outfit!

Judy made this gorgeous Asian inspired bag.

Kim's bag - love the fabric combination!

Tent Rocks National Monument, New Mexico

Yesterday Chris and I ventured about an hour north of Albuquerque to a place called Tent Rocks.

When I go to places like this, I remember why I love the desert so much.... the rock formations are just incredible.

The day was perfect -- upper 70s and clear blue skies.

Ah, New Mexico.... it's good to be back!

solo hike

Today I found myself on the east slope of the Sandia Mountains, the range that is most visible from Albuquerque.  It really is a lovely place, and so close to home.

Chris has been training for a ridiculous trail running race (as in, elevation gain of over 4,000 feet in 9 miles from the foothills all the way to the top of the Sandia Crest).  He's pretty much a nutcase, but I mean that in the best possible way.

I picked him up from the top of the crest, which by the way was a good 30 degrees cooler than the temperature by our house today.

I stopped along the way to go for a short little hike before I met Chris at the top, and saw some lovely views and flowers along the way...

amazing installations!

Tadashi Kawamata, how did I not know about you before?
Now I just need to find me 1,000 wooden chairs and a huge dome to pile them in...
